Prayers

Prayer for a Pandemic

May those who are merely inconvenienced

remember those who lives are at stake.

May those who have no risk factors

remember those most vulnerable.

May those who have the luxury of working from home

remember those who have to choose between their health and making the rent.

May those who have the flexibility to care for their children with the schools closed

remember those who have no options.

May those who have to cancel trips

remember those who no place to go.

May those who are losing their margin money in the turmoil of the economic market

remember those who have no margin at all.

May those who settle in for quarantine at home

remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our country

let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,

let us find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbour.

Amen.

A prayer prepared by the President of the Methodist Conference, Dr Barbara Glasson

Lord

We are not people of fear

We are people of courage

We are not people who protect our own safety

We are people who protect our neighbours’ safety

We are not people of greed

We are people of generosity

We are your people God

Giving and loving

Wherever we are

Whatever it costs

For as long as it takes

Wherever you call us.

Amen
